Hey there, chocolate lovers. We’ve got a bit of a story for you. It’s not the one we’d normally tell, but since you’re part of our community, we wanted to share it with you.
Well, it’s not every day you walk into your chocolate shop to find out someone tried to start a fire inside it. Yep, you read that right. Someone broke one of our windows, shoved some garbage through it, and set it on fire. Sounds wild, right? Here’s the good news: it could have been so much worse.
The window? It didn’t shatter, which kept the fire contained. The flames? They burned out on their own. No roaring infernos here. The paper backing of the display cubby (where the garbage ended up) didn’t even catch fire. And by the time we got to the shop, the building maintenance crew had already cleaned it up and boarded the window. Talk about a rockstar team.
Oh, and shoutout to modern technology — our cameras caught the person responsible clear as day. The police now have a solid image of them and are on the case. Knowing they’re taking it seriously has been a big relief.
Honestly, we’re counting our blessings. We’re down one small window, a product display cubby, and a beloved little plant. We’ve got a few burn marks on our wood display, but the structure of the shop is just fine. Most importantly, the chocolate is safe.
Now, we’re chocolate people. We’re all about flavor, aroma, and the little details that make every bite perfect. So you can imagine our biggest concern: smoke taint. Smoke can sneak into chocolate’s flavor, and once it’s in, it’s in for good. To make sure that didn’t happen, we ran an ozone machine all night to clear out any lingering smoke. By morning, everything smelled fresh, and the chocolate passed the taste test. Huge sigh of relief.
When we shared this story, our amazing community had some pretty clever ideas. Some folks suggested we make “smoked” chocolate bars for s’mores. Others thought we should rebrand it as "mezcal chocolate." We’re still chuckling about it. If we ever do it, you’ll be the first to know.
This whole experience taught us a few things. First, having a solid landlord and maintenance team is everything. Their quick action kept things under control before we even got there. Second, don’t sleep on those smoke and fire alarms. They’re easy to forget about, but they’re absolutely crucial when you need them.
Honestly, we’re back in business, and things are looking good. If you’re wondering how to support us, it’s simple: buy some chocolate. Your love and support mean the world to us, especially after a wild week like this.
We’ll be sharing some photos of the incident — the damage, the cleanup, and everything in between — so you can see exactly what’s been going on behind the scenes. It’s a real look at the grit (and heart) it takes to keep a small business moving forward.
Thanks for being part of our journey. Seriously. You’re the best part of this whole adventure, and your support reminds us why we do this every day.
With love and gratitude,
The Intrigue Chocolate Co. Team
